Around 200 activists took to the streets of Cardiff on their bicycles today hoping to call on the Welsh Assembly to declare a climate emergency.

Members of Extinction Rebellion rode their bikes through the city centre of Cardiff in an effort to bring change to the city. The group travelled together along the busy roads during rush hour.
The event was the second of a three-day event here in Cardiff, but the group says they will continue to hold talks with members of the Welsh Assembly in an effort to declare a climate emergency in Wales.
Louise Gray, one of the organisers of the Cardiff campaign, said: “We are challenging the government on their approach to climate change. We want them to take it seriously, treat it like a crisis, and to radically change their ideas on how to reduce carbon emissions.
“After the demonstrations in London we are building on that in Cardiff. Because of all the publicity recently we are getting a lot of press interests here and it’s going to be a step change for what we are doing here in Cardiff.”

Among the riders was Mostyn Jones, who was there with his mother and his two children. He said about bringing his children to the event: “It’s for them and for what’s happening to the environment, but they kind of appreciate and understand that if people don’t make a difference today, maybe no one ever will.”
The event comes after recent protests involving schoolchildren in Wales, who campaigned for climate change outside the Senedd. When asked about the campaigning by schoolchildren, Louise Gray said: “We support the children strikes and they support us.“It’s just fantastic that young people are really getting the bit between their teethes and acting now. It’s their future after all.”
